AFL Session-5
Warm up Game
First of all we started off with a game to warm up. It was called Octopus, a game where the coach chose four to six taggers. The coaches chose six taggers and then we started the game. The coach yelled out “whoever is wearing blue” so people wearing blue clothing or accessories had to run. We continued to play the game for ten minutes.

The Ruck

Then the coach explained a skill called “The Ruck”. One person has to
be the referee and the other two people have to the ruck men. When the referee throws the ball in the air the ruck men have to hit the ball away from each other.

AFL Session 4
Warm up game!

Continuous Tag. Firstly everyone is a tagger. So when the coaches blow the whistle we run around and tag each other. If you get tagged you must bop down. To get back up the person if that tagged you gets tagged by someone else you can stand back up.

The ability we learnt was bouncing the ball    . To master this skill you have make your arms like a robot. Then you hold the ball on both of the stems. Next you bounce the ball on the ground and it has to come back to you. You also had to this skill if you walked 10 steps forward.

To practice it we first had to go on our knees and bounce the ball. If you can master that you can practice it by standing up.   Also we had to bounce the ball while walking.

We had lots of fun!!!

AFL session 3

Warm up game

The warm up game was called continuous tag. It wasn't a normal game of tag, everyone was in.  So if somebody tags you, you have to bob down. When the person that tagged you gets tagged, you stand back up.

Chest mark
In  AFL they call catching,  marking. The chest mark is basically a catch. First you bring your arms shaped like the number 11. Then you make your arms like a digger. When the person passes the ball to you, you scoop the ball up to your chest.

High mark
The high mark is also a catch. You basically have your thumb and your index finger shaped like a L. Then you connect you fingers to make a camera. When the person passes it to you, you aim your camera towards the ball, so you can catch the ball .

Spectacular catch
The spectacular catch is when your partner holds the ball in the air with one hand. Then you run and jump and get the ball out of his hand. When you run to get the ball one of your legs gets lifted up in the air so you cannot hit your partner.

Crazy catch
So this game is about catching. You get points for the different kind catches. 1 point is for a normal catch. 2 points is for a high mark catch. 3 points is for a one hand catch .4 points is when you catch the ball behind your back. 5 points is when you catch the ball behind your back with one hand , and finally 10 points is when you catch the ball with one hand  while closing your eyes .

Matariki Week at Rosebank School

For Matariki week we made kites and this how we made it.
First we lay our paper horizontally.(Place the long sides of the paper on top and bottom)and fold it in half.
Secondly we mark a point on top of the edge.
It should be 1/2" (12 mm) in from the center
Thirdly we marked a point on the bottom edge.It should be between 1/2" (12 mm) to 3" (7.5 cm) in from the other side....depending on size and shape of wing you want. The one shown here is 3 inches.
After that we draw a line between the two point.Fold along this angled line.'
Then we pinch the first fold.(Pinch the center fold to hold it closed as you fold back the wings along the second, angled fold line. You now have the basic shape of the kite.)

After we secure it  together.Run some tape along the length of the join or with a couple of staples at each end of the fold on the spine.
Next we tape our stick or straw across the wings of the kite. It should be horizontal, in line with the side points.

Afterwards we used the hole puncher to make a hole in the bottom flap.
Finally we tied our string through the hole.Secure with a firm but gentle knot.
This is our finished kite.We had so much fun making this hope next time you'll try it out!

AFL Session - 2
Warm up game
On Tuesday 4 of June we went to an AFL session to learn some skills. We first played a warm up game called Octopus. There are two taggers. Then the rest of the kids line up in a line. The taggers call out colors that people are wearing then they run across to the other side the taggers will try to tag the opposition runners. The people who get tagged by the taggers have to act like seaweeds. When you are seaweeds you cannot run or move your legs. You can only move your arms and to tag others.
Hand Ball Pass
Put your both hands in front of you, the hand you write with put it at the back of you. Lay your other hand flat as if you are holding a dinner plate. Then use your other hand and hit the ball on the bottom where the cross is.
Pirate Dance
To master the technique you also do a pirate dance. Use one arm for the dinner plate then place the ball in your hand. Then use your other hand to hit the ball like a pirate.

We hope you master this technique!
