Matariki Week at Rosebank School

For Matariki week we made kites and this how we made it.
First we lay our paper horizontally.(Place the long sides of the paper on top and bottom)and fold it in half.
Secondly we mark a point on top of the edge.
It should be 1/2" (12 mm) in from the center
Thirdly we marked a point on the bottom edge.It should be between 1/2" (12 mm) to 3" (7.5 cm) in from the other side....depending on size and shape of wing you want. The one shown here is 3 inches.
After that we draw a line between the two point.Fold along this angled line.'
Then we pinch the first fold.(Pinch the center fold to hold it closed as you fold back the wings along the second, angled fold line. You now have the basic shape of the kite.)

After we secure it  together.Run some tape along the length of the join or with a couple of staples at each end of the fold on the spine.
Next we tape our stick or straw across the wings of the kite. It should be horizontal, in line with the side points.

Afterwards we used the hole puncher to make a hole in the bottom flap.
Finally we tied our string through the hole.Secure with a firm but gentle knot.
This is our finished kite.We had so much fun making this hope next time you'll try it out!
