My Journey at Rosebank School

In the past 6 years in this school I have shared laughs, tears, hopes and dreams with my lovely teachers. They have inspired me to learn and study new things. My first teacher that taught me and a couple of my friends was Cat Buchanan  She taught me in Room 1. Then I moved to Kotahitanga and met Mary-Rose Anderson Ballard in Room 10. I spent 2 years learning from her. Then in Room 11 I met Miss Wooldridge and Sheela Stanley they were both awesome and taught me twice. Then the best teacher of all was whaea Patricia. She has put up with my classroom’s behavior and also taught our class a lot of new things. She is awesome and I’m so sad to leave her and these other teachers that I have been with through these school years. And I would like to say a big thank you to them all!

Swimming Reflections

The swimming instructors taught us how to swim and float on our back. We have to keep our hands on our sides as if we were soldiers. Swimming backwards was easy for me, we had to keep our stomach up in order for us to float.
Keanu

This is me doing a backstroke, I have to swim 25m and a 1/2.The hardest thing was to keep swimming in a straight line.
Jason

The skill we learnt is backstroke and it was a bit hard for me to do. How I felt scared when I was doing the backstroke. The reason why I was scared because everyone was watching me, and I thought I was about to drown. In the end I learnt how to do the backstroke. The other skill we learnt was the streamline; I found streamline easy because I learnt how to do it last year as well. I felt doing it was fun and interesting to learn.
Lynelle

This is me doing the back stroke. It felt easy for me because I knew how to float and swim. But the hard part was when we had to turn around and keep swimming and swimming.
Patricia

When I was under water I was so irritated because water was getting into my nose. But what I have learnt from swimming is to learn to do the backstroke. I found the backstroke hard because I can’t paddle properly and float and my instructor was Rachael she told me to keep my chin at my chest, and keep my stomach up.

The first easiest skill was the streamline. We had to have both our arms behind our ears and paddle to one end to another. The hardest skill was the backstroke because I couldn't float on my back and couldn't keep my stomach up and kept floating. Water was getting into my eyes, ears, and nose and couldn't paddle properly. Next time I’ll try to keep my stomach up and paddle faster and keep swimming till I reach the end of the pool.
Joshua

This term we are learning how to swim today we are doing stream line. I think its easy because I was listening to the instructors  instructions and I go  swimming lessons. I think next time I need to bring my goggles because when I go under the water by eyes burn when water gets into my eyes, also I need to paddle so I can float better.
Simran

This term we had swimming lessons, and this skill we learnt is called streamline. The streamline was easy for me because I could use that skill to swim from one end to another.  When I was swimming it felt great, but I didn't like it when everyone was watching me swim.
Chelsey

The backstroke was difficult to me because I didn’t know how to float on my back. The first time I was floating I didn’t paddle my feet I was going to stand up but I didn’t because the instructor was holding my back straight. I closed my eyes because the water went in my eyes and it was hurting while I was closing it. You need to keep your back straight, paddle your feet and put your hands by your side.

The Secret Wizard By Nicky Room14

Swimming Lesson 2
On Wednesday 7th August after morning tea Room 14 had their second swimming lesson. When we entered Rachael and Fern told us we had split into two groups. The boys group and girls group, The girls went first and the boys had to wait for 20 minutes.

20 minutes later the boys jumped in. Then we got split again because some of us didn’t come to the last session. The first skill we learned was the stream line. We had to put our two arms behind our ears and paddle with our feet. Also we had to do that from one end to another.

The second skill we did was swimming on our backs. We had to keep our heads up out of the water, keep our stomach up, and paddle, After the instructor Rachael gave us a tip to follow a straight metal pole until our head hits the end of the pool, and to blink if water was getting our eyes.

Finally the last skill we learnt was another swimming technique. You had to throw one arm over and the other arm should follow and we keep doing that for 4 times. Then you had to turn around on your back and throw your arms backwards.

This session was helpful and amazing.

Swimming Lesson 1
On Tuesday 6th August Room 14 had their first swimming lesson. We got into the pool and we were ready to swim. We had to have a swimming assessment to see what we could do and what we could not do.  The first thing we had to do was swim from one end to another end. We could swim however we wanted to. We then had to swim on our backs and keep our head out of the water .The instructors then taught us a swimming skill called the stream line. All we had to do was put up our arms and put it behind our ears. Then we swam from one end to another as much as we could do! After we had 1 minute of free time in the pool. Finally our time was finished; we raced to the exit with 5 seconds left. Can’t wait for the next swimming session!

We were under the water for 5 seconds.

We were floating on our backs.

AFL Final Session – 6
First of all we played a game of octopus for our warm up game. Four people were the taggers, and whenever someone called out the colour of their clothes, or a subject we will run, and then if you got tagged you will be seaweeds, and being an octopus you can’t move, only your arms.

Afterwards they introduced us to a new game. This is when we combine all our master skills that we have learnt which is, the hand ball pass, the drop punt kick, and the ruck. In the game were two teams and at the beginning we have to choose one person in each team to do the ruck, after that we had to try and get the ball and not run with it, and to get a goal someone had to stand in the goal and once someone from your team passes it to you, you have to try and catch it and that will count as a goal, but if you don’t catch it it’s not a goal.

We had so much Fun!

AFL Session-5
Warm up Game
First of all we started off with a game to warm up. It was called Octopus, a game where the coach chose four to six taggers. The coaches chose six taggers and then we started the game. The coach yelled out “whoever is wearing blue” so people wearing blue clothing or accessories had to run. We continued to play the game for ten minutes.

The Ruck

Then the coach explained a skill called “The Ruck”. One person has to
be the referee and the other two people have to the ruck men. When the referee throws the ball in the air the ruck men have to hit the ball away from each other.

Chelsey's multiplication stratigies

Merlin's multiplication stratigies

AFL Session 4
Warm up game!

Continuous Tag. Firstly everyone is a tagger. So when the coaches blow the whistle we run around and tag each other. If you get tagged you must bop down. To get back up the person if that tagged you gets tagged by someone else you can stand back up.

The ability we learnt was bouncing the ball    . To master this skill you have make your arms like a robot. Then you hold the ball on both of the stems. Next you bounce the ball on the ground and it has to come back to you. You also had to this skill if you walked 10 steps forward.

To practice it we first had to go on our knees and bounce the ball. If you can master that you can practice it by standing up.   Also we had to bounce the ball while walking.

We had lots of fun!!!

AFL session 3

Warm up game

The warm up game was called continuous tag. It wasn't a normal game of tag, everyone was in.  So if somebody tags you, you have to bob down. When the person that tagged you gets tagged, you stand back up.

Chest mark
In  AFL they call catching,  marking. The chest mark is basically a catch. First you bring your arms shaped like the number 11. Then you make your arms like a digger. When the person passes the ball to you, you scoop the ball up to your chest.

High mark
The high mark is also a catch. You basically have your thumb and your index finger shaped like a L. Then you connect you fingers to make a camera. When the person passes it to you, you aim your camera towards the ball, so you can catch the ball .

Spectacular catch
The spectacular catch is when your partner holds the ball in the air with one hand. Then you run and jump and get the ball out of his hand. When you run to get the ball one of your legs gets lifted up in the air so you cannot hit your partner.

Crazy catch
So this game is about catching. You get points for the different kind catches. 1 point is for a normal catch. 2 points is for a high mark catch. 3 points is for a one hand catch .4 points is when you catch the ball behind your back. 5 points is when you catch the ball behind your back with one hand , and finally 10 points is when you catch the ball with one hand  while closing your eyes .

Matariki Week at Rosebank School

For Matariki week we made kites and this how we made it.
First we lay our paper horizontally.(Place the long sides of the paper on top and bottom)and fold it in half.
Secondly we mark a point on top of the edge.
It should be 1/2" (12 mm) in from the center
Thirdly we marked a point on the bottom edge.It should be between 1/2" (12 mm) to 3" (7.5 cm) in from the other side....depending on size and shape of wing you want. The one shown here is 3 inches.
After that we draw a line between the two point.Fold along this angled line.'
Then we pinch the first fold.(Pinch the center fold to hold it closed as you fold back the wings along the second, angled fold line. You now have the basic shape of the kite.)

After we secure it  together.Run some tape along the length of the join or with a couple of staples at each end of the fold on the spine.
Next we tape our stick or straw across the wings of the kite. It should be horizontal, in line with the side points.

Afterwards we used the hole puncher to make a hole in the bottom flap.
Finally we tied our string through the hole.Secure with a firm but gentle knot.
This is our finished kite.We had so much fun making this hope next time you'll try it out!
